Burt, NY – Five wines from Black Willow Winery were gilded at the 2014 Grand Harvest Awards held in Windsor, California on November 18th and 19th. The competition reviewed each wine based upon the wine’s individual Terroir or winery group, region, specific appellation, and sharing the same type of soil, weather conditions, grapes and type of wine.
Black Willow Winery’s DePeche Meow and Black Widow Berry were both honored with Gold medals at the event. Two Silver medals were also granted to both Trilogy Red and Riesling. Rounding off the five awards with a Bronze medal was Black Willow Winery’s Odin’s Nectar, a traditional honey mead.
The Grand Harvest Wine Competition was established in 1990 and is the only wine-judging event in North America that is based on Terroir. According to 2014 GHA spokesperson, Christopher Sawyer, “The Grand Harvest Awards is a judge’s dream come true. Beyond varietal category and price point, this one-of-a-kind competition is based on appellation instead of mass-production. The end result is more definition of the wines made with grapes inside the boundaries of a specific viticultural area and distinct flavors that have helped wines rise to the top of the scale in the global marketplace.” More information on the Grand Harvest Wine Competition can be found at: http://www.winecompetitions.com
